How did you feel when you found out you were chosen to be Kappa Psi’s brother of the month?

I was honored to be chosen as Brother of the Month. Being recognized meant that my contributions to the Chapter were appreciated and that I was doing something beyond what I thought I was capable of.

What are you enjoying the most so far from being a Brother of Kappa Psi?

As a Brother of Kappa Psi, I am enjoying the company of the Chapter by becoming closer and forming stronger bonds with my fellow Brothers at events and goals that we work towards. Not only that, but I feel I have made an impact through my position to help the Chapter grow. It has brought a lot of confidence in myself as a student pharmacist and Brother of Kappa Psi that my actions make a difference and that, in itself, is something more than I could have ever asked for.

Can you tell us about some of the on-going projects you are involved with in Kappa Psi?

An on-going project I have been involved in is the Kappa Psi website. It is quite a daunting task to learn how to develop such an endeavor so that it professionally represents an organization at the level required. It requires a lot of persistence, consistency, punctuality, and structure to maintain a website. I have learned a lot and still have more to learn. Eventually, I would love for the website to grow and become a useful resource for both the Chapter and the school.

What is your current year in pharmacy school and what are you enjoying the most out of your classes? Is there a particular class you enjoy the most? Why?

Currently, I am a P2 student at California Health Sciences University. I am enjoying diving deeper into the clinical sciences and learning how to apply knowledge and treat disease states with the expertise required of a pharmacist. The class I am enjoying the most is actually my elective, Tribal Leadership, with Dr. Fuentes. It’s an amazing class that entails psychology, neuroscience, and social learning to help grow individually. Personally, I enjoy discussions about introspective thinking and analyzing behavior to better communicate.

What initially made you interested to pursue a career in pharmacy?

My initial pursuit of pharmacy actually was due to the presence of the school here in Clovis. I knew I wanted to do something in healthcare, especially since the idea of helping others with their health was a contribution I thought would be worth a lifetime of being satisfied at the end of every day. I wouldn’t say I was highly focused on pharmacy in the beginning, but it has been well worth my efforts towards the profession and I am satisfied with the decisions I have made.

Do you have any hobbies? What are your interest and/or how do you usually like to spend your free time?

I spend my free time getting milk tea at Happy Lemon with close friends and classmates. Currently, I haven’t had much time to enjoy hobbies but in my past time I used to play a lot of computer games, discover new music, and play around with my guitar.

What is an interesting fact or story about you that many people don’t know?

Despite being half Chinese and half Brazilian, I’m only fluent in English.

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

In 5 years, I would like to see myself employed in a pharmacy career. If I’m entertaining my imagination, it would be amazing to see myself in a leadership role while creating new opportunities for pharmacists to contribute in the health field. I would also enjoy seeing myself surrounded by the company I’ve become close with including a life-long partner that makes me a better human.
